Getting creative (4-25-2020) April 25 2020, 12 Comments

All week I've been thinking about ways to be more creative while spending time at home. All kinds of jobs and forms of work have passed my way over the years and I've never really done just one in particular. I've been thinking about getting back into painting. Before I started making ties I painted quite a bit. I'd like to try out palette knife painting techniques. Years ago I only did brush with acrylics. Here's a painting I did of my brother while I was living with him in California almost ten years ago. it was a big piece, 36" x 46" if I remember right.

The Man on The Plane!

I brought this painting back to Montana and was showing it to an artist at his gallery. As we're talking he says 'So what are you going to call it?" I had no idea and hadn't really thought about naming my paintings. Not a minute later a group of people come in to the gallery and one of the women points at it and says to her friends, "It's the man on the plane!". I must have looked confused because she began to explain that they had just flown into town from out of state and she thought she had seen this man on their flight. Hilarious!...So that's what I've always called it, "The man on the plane!" It sold about a year later to a wonderful collector in Missoula.

COVID-19 (APR 21 2020) April 21 2020, 4 Comments

On December 31st of 2019 my wife and I were at a hospital in Coeur d'Alene Idaho. She was recovering from an operation there for a couple of days. That night I was watching the news while she was asleep. The new Coronavirus that came to be called SARS COVID-19 was beginning to plague Wuhan China. With Wuhan being so far away, at the time I didn't worry too much about it.

Now things are very different all over the world. There really is no place that hasn't been affected by this virus. At the time of this writing the worldwide death toll is at 176,926 with over 2.5 Million confirmed other cases. We have been advised to stay in our home and that is what we are doing.

Being trapped at home for weeks has been tough for everyone. I started this blog today as a way for me to have an outlet to the outside world other than the grocery store. Living in Montana we aren't as vulnerable to plagues as metro areas (only 10 deaths statewide so far). The economy has been turned upside down here in the U.S. and the authorities are scrambling to try and re-open businesses without risking more lives. I'm sure it's going to be a while before things return to 'normal'.

So until then, stay home, wash your hands, and be safe!

Oh and here's a picture of a deer from our backyard -
